Falls Prevention Programme
Our 24-week community based falls prevention referral programme is for older adults at risk of falling. It provides a low-cost follow on service for those exiting the NHS Falls Prevention Service, or a solution for people unsteady on their feet and wishing to prevent a fall. These highly regarded and popular strength and balance classes are designed by experienced health & fitness professionals.
NICE compliant and based on the LLT/ProFane model, our highly regarded Wellbalanced programme was featured in The Raising The Bar On Strength & Balance Report produced by The Centre for Better Ageing.

What you can expect
Taking place throughout West Sussex, our friendly Postural Stability Instructors lead our classes which consists of falls prevention strategies that are up to date and evidence-based to ensure maximum effectiveness so you can feel more confident on your feet.
We offer community-based face-to-face classes for you to attend and take part in to reduce your risk of falling, and engage with fellow members of your community.

What is The Wellbalanced Programme?
Funded by West Sussex Public Health, this 24 week course of strength and balance exercise classes is designed to help increase strength and stability and reduce your risk of falls. Each session is led by a qualified Postural Stability Instructor and a support instructor.
Who is it suitable for?
This course maybe for you if you have felt unsteady on your feet, experienced a fall or want to prevent a fall. You will need to be able to rise from a chair without help and will be assessed before joining a class. If the classes are not suitable for you, we will refer you to other services to suit your needs.
How often do the classes take place?
Classes are held weekly and you will be able to attend 1 class per week for 24-weeks.
Where and when do the classes take place?
Weekly classes are available throughout West Sussex, details can be found here. Each classes is for one hour.
How much does each session cost?
The classes are funded by West Sussex Public Health and classes are free to attend.Â
How do I book onto the programme
You can self refer or be referred by a GP or health professional to join this programme. You can also contact your local Wellbeing service. If you would like to self refer please contact us by emailing info@ahswellbeing.co.uk. You may be placed on a waiting list until a class becomes available.
Do you provide transport to community classes?
If you cannot make your own way, we recommend using Community Transport Sussex. 01444 471 919.

What should I wear during a class?
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for exercising. If you use any mobility aids, e.g. a walking stick, please bring these with you.
What should I expect on my first session?
In your first session we will complete an assessment to ensure the exercises are suitable for you and enable us to monitor your progress. We will ask you to complete the assessment again in 12 weeks time to see how you are progressing and then again at 24 weeks. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
What happens if I am unable to attend a class?
We ask you to commit to attending every week for 24 weeks, however if you cannot attend a class, please inform your instructor as soon as possible. If you have to cancel at short notice, please email info@ahswellbeing.co.uk to let us know.
Are there any exercises I can follow at home?
Yes, you will certainly feel the benefit of doing the exercises regularly. We have a selection of short videos and further information on our home exercise hub.
What happens at the end of the 24-week programme?
We encourage you to keep exercising and will inform you of any suitable classes in your area that you can attend. We will provide you with further details of these.
